As a candidate, you have a variety of opportunities to campaign and to promote the PEC election. You also have requirements to fulfill by specific deadlines, such as providing your bio to the ATA and participating in any forums planned by the ATA or your local, depending on the position you are running for and whether it is contested or not.
Candidate announcement
Upon the close of nominations, the ATA will announce all candidates on its website and in the ATA News.
Each candidate should submit a headshot photo that is consistent with the election rules to accompany the announcement.

- Preferred graphic specifications: 2 inches by 3 inches in size and 300 dots per inch (dpi) resolution.
Candidate bios, platforms and speeches
Each candidate is asked to submit a brief biography and campaign platform summary for publication in the ATA News and on the ATA website. We also request a campaign video speech from each candidate to publish on the website and on our YouTube channel.
Be sure to participate in this important part of your campaign! Submitting these items ensures all ATA members have access to information on which to base their votes.
All deadlines are firm! Plan ahead to have your submissions in by the deadlines stated below.

Campaign table at teachers’ conventions
During election years, the ATA purchases floor space at every teachers’ convention for candidates to campaign.
This area will have nonpartisan signage promoting the election itself, as well as a table upon which candidates can display their materials.
Please refer to the Candidates’ Handbook for detailed information.
Election forums
Once candidates are confirmed, the ATA will arrange virtual election forums, providing candidates in contested races with a formal opportunity to engage with ATA members and campaign for votes.
ATA locals may arrange additional forums or other campaign events.
Details on the forums will be communicated by email to candidates.
Special school mailing
Throughout the school year, the ATA sends regular mailings to all school districts in the province. During the election, the ATA covers the cost of one school mailing of campaign materials for each candidate.
