Due to severe flooding in July, Barnett House will remain closed until early 2027.

The Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) will be marking one year since the 2025 provincewide teachers’ strike this October with a food-bank initiative recognizing the support teachers received from their communities.
As part of its 365 Days social media campaign, the ATA is encouraging members and supporters of public education to make a small donation to their local food bank this October. There is no set amount or expectation. The idea is for participants to give what they can, if they can. Those making a donation can include a note such as, “This donation is from a supporter of public education.”
The initiative follows widespread community support for teachers during the strike, when people dropped off food and coffee, local businesses offered discounts and meals and others supported teachers at rallies across the province.
The ATA’s 365 Days campaign, of which the food drive is a part, will run from Oct. 6 to 27. During the campaign, the ATA will reflect on the year since the strike and share messages from Albertans on the essential role teachers and public schools play in Alberta’s communities.
The food-bank initiative is intended to acknowledge the support teachers received during the labour dispute while encouraging continued connections between schools and their communities.
Teachers and supporters can participate by contacting their local food bank or making a donation during October.
