ATA 2027 PEC election

It’s time for ATA members to start thinking about running for Provincial Executive Council (PEC). Nominations will soon open for all elected positions on PEC. Active and associate ATA members are eligible to run and vote in the 2027 PEC election.
Details about the nomination and election processes will be mailed to schools (care of ATA school representatives) and made available on the ATA website when nominations officially open this October. 

What is PEC?

PEC is the 20-member executive committee which directs the business of the ATA. It comprises the ATA president, two vice-presidents, the past president, 15 district representatives and the executive secretary. With the exception of the past president and executive secretary, all positions are elected once every two years by the ATA membership.

Members of PEC

• are teachers; 
• meet as a council two days at a time at least eight times each year; 
• serve on internal and external committees and ATA subgroups, like specialist councils;
  engage in professional development as part of their duties; 
• make decisions affecting the budgets, policies and strategic direction of the ATA; and 
• are accountable to the ATA membership.

Note: Budgets and policies of the ATA are voted on at its Annual Representative Assembly by more than 400 teacher delegates who represent teachers employed by every public, separate and francophone school board in the province.
