Alberta teachers are dissatisfied with the new curriculum implementation, according to a recent study. Between February 10 to March 6, 2023 the Alberta Teachers’ Association conducted a large research study with over a 1000 Alberta kindergarten to Grade 6 (K-6) teachers. Respondents weighed in on each of the subject areas and added written feedback.

“It is grossly developmentally inappropriate,” said one Alberta school leader regarding the math curriculum. Only 26% of K-3 teachers are satisfied with the math curriculum. A staggering 80% of Alberta teachers also reported a lack of resources for the implemented curriculum.

Additionally, the elementary teachers were concerned with the amount of student testing. More than 90% of the teachers mentioned concern that testing is taking away time from student learning. To see many of the results, have a look at the infographic created by the Alberta Teachers’ Association.
