Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) president Jason Schilling has issued the following statement with regards to Bill 27, Education Amendment Act.
“Bill 27 undermines trust between students, parents and teachers, making schools feel less safe and caring for all students. This proposed legislation targets vulnerable students while distracting from the pressing issues facing public education, such as chronic underfunding and overcrowded schools. In addition, excessive new opt-in and approval requirements will result in overwhelming red tape for parents and schools.”
The Alberta Teachers’ Association, as the professional organization of teachers, promotes and advances public education, supports teachers’ professional practice and serves as the advocate for its 46,000 members.
