Association mourns passing of esteemed colleague
Staff of the Alberta Teachers’ Association are mourning the loss of colleague Sudeep Dua, 47, who succumbed to a brief illness on September 28.
An incredibly hard worker, Dua was a person who colleagues knew they could always count on, and who never seemed to have an unkind word to say about anyone, said Sean Brown, coordinator of Teacher Employment Membership Support (TEMS).
“Sudeep was one of those rare people who made everyone around her feel valued and appreciated. She brought extraordinary kindness, warmth and dedication to the TEMS team,” Brown said.
Dua joined the Association’s professional staff in 2017 as an administrative officer in the former Member Services program area. She served in several roles during her Association career, most recently as manager of membership support in the TEMS program area.
“She cared deeply about her colleagues, treasured her friendships and believed wholeheartedly in the mission of the Alberta Teachers’ Association,” Brown said. “But more than anything, Sudeep was simply a wonderful person. We were fortunate to work alongside her, and even more fortunate to call her our friend.”
Born in India and raised in Edmonton since age nine, Dua loved beach vacations, 1990s Bollywood movies and shopping, particularly for earrings and shoes. She also believed strongly in helping others. She gave blood regularly and dreamed of one day building an animal shelter in India to care for animals in need.
“She believed in following the rules, in a just society and in the importance of a strong social safety net for those who were struggling or less fortunate,” her obituary states.
Dua was extremely dedicated to her family, including her husband and two children.
