The Alberta Teachers' Association, as the professional organization of teachers, promotes and advances public education, safeguards standards of professional practice and serves as the advocate for its members.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role will be responsible for overall accounts payable batch accuracy and completeness, entering journal entries, conducting required reconciliations (Bank, Member Fees, lease related) and regulatory filings (GST). Further, the role will work with finance staff to ensure accurate, timely and effective execution of commercial leases in place. Further, the role will ensure capital asset acquisitions are tracked and reflected accurately within the Association’s financial system. This position will also oversee matters related to the Association’s automobile fleet. Finally, the role will manage the annual insurance renewal process and support the CFO in budget drafting and cash planning.

Examples of specific duties include:
- Supporting an overall effective AP process, confirming that invoices include necessary and accurate details such as invoice number, date, vendor, etc.;
- Responsible for quarterly preparation and submission of GST filing;
- Conducting month-end bank reconciliations and submitting for approval;
- Administers tenant rental agreements;
- Supports the CFO and other senior staff in various aspects of lease negotiations, including reconciliations and analysis, budget, and cash planning;
- Facilitates the purchase of Association automobiles, maintains insurance records for the organization, including fleet;
- Assisting the Finance area to modernize and optimize several internal and external facing processes.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting or finance
- Five years of relevant work experience
- Sound understanding of how to apply fundamental finance and accounting concepts and principles.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications, Business Central and other business-related software.
- Strong attention to detail, communication skills (verbal and written), high degree of accuracy and ability to effectively prioritize;
- Well developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with others.
- The ability to multitask and to prioritize work assignments.
- Payroll experience is an asset.
Salary: This position offers a competitive starting salary of $72,997 to a maximum of $91,865 (after 5 years) plus a full range of employer-paid benefits.
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
Work Location: Barnett House (11010 142 Street NW), Edmonton.
