Accounting Technician III

The Alberta Teachers' Association, as the professional organization of teachers, promotes and advances public education, safeguards standards of professional practice and serves as the advocate for its members.

Reporting to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer, this position provides accurate, timely and confidential accounts-payable services to Association employees, subgroups, members and Provincial Executive Council. In providing day-to-day accounts-payable support, the incumbent follows established guidelines and policies.

Examples of specific duties include:

  • Provide advice and recommendations to Association staff and Provincial Executive Council on allowable expenses and general ledger coding.
  • Reviewing expense claims, invoices and EFT requisitions for payments.
  • Overseeing work and managing the Accounts Payable workflow.
  • Determining budget codes and authorized individual for sending out invoices for approval through the accounting software workflow.
  • Preparing accounts-receivable requisitions as required.  
  • Monitoring account allowances for executive staff and provincial executive council.
  • Reconciling monthly fee statements and outstanding/problem vendor accounts and making adjustments where necessary.  
  • Reconciling incoming payments on a weekly/monthly basis and preparing/entering journal entries and internal reports to ensure accurate cash management.  

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in accounting or a related field.
  • Three years of accounts payable/accounts receivable experience in a professional setting. Equivalencies with education may be considered. 
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience using financial systems such as Business Central, Continia and other business-related software is considered an asset.
  • Strong attention to detail, communication skills (verbal and written), high degree of accuracy and ability to effectively prioritize;
  • The ability to multitask and to prioritize work assignments.
  • Experience working in a member-driven association is considered an asset.

Salary: This position offers a competitive starting salary of $54,185 to a maximum of $67,470 (after 3 years) plus a full range of employer-paid benefits.

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Work Location: Barnett House (11010 142 Street NW), Edmonton.
