HUMAN RESOURCES ASSISTANT

Reporting to the HR Director and working as a member of the HR team in a service-oriented, fast-paced and dynamic environment, the human resources assistant provides comprehensive support and works collaboratively with the HR team. Specifically, this position is responsible for:

  • Assisting with recruitment activities, including preparing and posting job advertisements, updating interview questions and packages, screening applications, arranging interviews and administering pre-employment tests; 
  • Coordinating new hire orientations and assisting with the coordination of employee benefits, pension, training and development activities as assigned;
  • Coordinating safety and other mandatory corporate training and maintaining accurate records;
  • Working with the Association’s human resources information system (UKG) to assist with employee setup, and account removal.; 
  • Assisting with employee recognition activities;
  • Participating in committees and providing administrative support as assigned;
  • Supporting positive employee relations by responding to staff inquiries and escalating issues as required;
  • Providing assistance in the administration, development and revision of HR policies, procedures and internal programs; 
  • Maintaining office supplies, distributing incoming mail, preparing correspondence and assisting with posting HR communications to the internal site; and
  • Preparing, maintaining and controlling accurate filing systems (paper and electronic), records and statistics.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in HR or equivalent and a minimum of two (2) years HR administrative experience in a HR environment;
  • Hands on experience with navigating and working with payroll and/or training systems software system; 
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other online meeting software (Zoom, Teams and/or Sharepoint)
  • Highly developed time management, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.  
  •  A proven commitment to continued professional development and a high level of initiative;
  • Demonstrated accuracy in keyboarding, proofreading, spelling, punctuation, grammar and strong attention to detail; 
  • Experience working in a unionized environment and with collective agreements is an asset; 
    Working knowledge of employment legislation and human resources theory and practices is an asset.

Salary: This position is out of scope with a competitive starting annual salary of $54,105 to a maximum of $66,499 after three years, plus a full range of employer-paid benefits.

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Work Location: Barnett House (11010 142 Street NW), Edmonton.
