Townhall produces promises

At a telephone townhall held on Monday, Dec. 1, Premier Danielle Smith and Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides reiterated their message that teachers have shared their experiences in classrooms, and that the story isn’t good. Teachers are now waiting for the government to provide actual support and resources that address the issues in schools. Nicolaides said we would see resources (ie. the hiring of more teachers) by February 2026.

Immediately after the townhall, ATA president Jason Schilling shared the following message on social media.

“Teachers will have learned nothing from tonight’s town hall. The cynic in me has a hard time believing that a government so callous in its treatment of teachers with Bill 2 will do what it says to fix the problems it created. It will be up to all of us—teachers, parents, students and all Albertans—to hold them to account.”
