A safe space for all students

Across the country today, a group hiding behind the guise of misinformation and manipulation attempted to spread intolerance and hate toward the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. Protests such as this provoke fear in spaces that should be safe.

The Education Act explicitly states that all students and staff in the province’s public, Catholic and francophone schools are to be provided with a welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environment that respects diversity and creates a sense of belonging.

We must demonstrate collective and unwavering support to keep schools safe for every child.

Today’s protest was overshadowed by overwhelming support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, teachers and their allies. We continue to prove there is no tolerance for homophobia and transphobia.

As Albertans, we have a responsibility to stand together and advocate for inclusive spaces for all students.
