The Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) has launched a new contest to tap into the creative talents of the province’s young artists. The “My School. My Future.” contest invites artists aged 6 to 17 who are currently enrolled in Alberta’s public education system to draw a picture of what they love most about their teacher, going to school or their favourite subject. The winners will have their artwork featured on merchandise in the ATA online store and receive a $250 gift card to Mastermind Games, provided by Belairdirect Insurance.
The contest is designed to give students a way to celebrate their teachers and public education. While the ATA store already contains products that promote public education and professional solidarity, these new student-created designs will honour the role teachers play in their students’ lives and how teachers help students achieve their future goals.
Five finalists will be selected from the eligible submissions. Those five entries will be presented to the Provincial Executive Council, which will select two favourite drawings as the winners. The winning artwork will be posted on the ATA’s social media channels at the end of June, with the new student-inspired merchandise set to appear in the ATA online store this fall.
Teachers are encouraged to have their students participate in the contest, but the formal entry must be submitted by the artist’s parent or legal guardian. Entries can be sent to communications@ata.ab.ca. The contest closes at midnight on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.
