Memorandum of Agreement reached

A memorandum of agreement has been reached between the Alberta Teachers’ Association and the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association. Teachers are being presented with the tentative agreement, and will vote online from 8 AM Saturday, September 27 until 5 PM Monday, September 29, with results published afterwards. Teachers will go on strike on October 6 in the absence of accepting a deal.

“Teachers do not take the decision before them lightly. They recognize what is on the line with this vote and remain committed to an outcome that prioritizes the future of our public education system.”

 — ATA president Jason Schilling

Alberta’s public education teachers will consider the tentative agreement that addresses salary and classroom complexity issues, which includes a commitment to hire an additional 3,000 teachers over the next three years.

Please note that no additional information will be available until after the ratification vote.

The Alberta Teachers’ Association, as the professional organization of teachers, promotes and advances public education, supports teachers’ professional practice and serves as the advocate for its 51,000 members.
