Additional Languages and Intercultural Council (ALIC)

Our Teacher Collaboration Program provides release time for educators to work with colleagues to develop their language programs. The year-long Professional Learning Community of Practice connects teachers with a University of Alberta professor to explore plurilingualism and related research. Finally, the Language Teacher Bursary funds teachers pursuing professional learning of their choice, from French courses to graduate-level studies.

Council for Inclusive Education (CIE)

A recent highlight was the Celebrating the Challenges Conference held in May 2025, which brought educators together for rich learning and meaningful connection, reflecting our commitment to inclusive, brain-aligned and responsive educational practices across Alberta. We’re also proud of the growth of our podcast, Inclusive Chronicles: Tips and Tricks for Inclusion in Alberta, now in its third season.

Career and Technology Education Council (CTEC)

CTEC leads the way in delivering dynamic, local PD opportunities to CTF and CTS teachers. Join us in Canmore, November 2026. Visit CTEC's website.

Early Childhood Education Council (ECEC)

Our April 2025 annual conference was a success, especially a hands-on “make and take” where participants used plasticine to create vibrant, Barbara Reid–inspired portraits. The closing cozy pajama party celebrated fantastic, inclusive picture books through shared stories and connection.

English Language Arts Council (ELAC)

The council has been very engaged in helping teachers to update text selections to bring more engaging, diverse and appropriately challenging texts to our students. It has led to many great collaborations across the province and between specialist councils.

Science Council (SC)

Our growing collaboration with other specialist councils provides meaningful professional learning opportunities for our members. Recently, we partnered with the Health and Physical Education Council (HPEC) on a joint conference in April 2026 that highlighted the interdisciplinary connections between science, health and physical education. Also, our well-respected Science Council journal continues to showcase innovative teaching practices and current issues in science education.

Le Conseil français (LCF)

Our council recently partnered with the Association canadienne des professionnels de l’immersion, with several of our members presenting and participating in the national conference. Before that, we hosted an elementary literacy workshop for immersion and francophone teachers. We’re now collaborating with the Social Studies Council to present at their conference this fall.

Religious and Moral Education Council (RMEC)

Our mission is to improve knowledge and understanding of religious and moral education.

Indigenous Education Council (IEC)

Oki/ tansi. The most exciting thing the council has done recently is host a cultural camp. Participants actively joined in traditional teachings, ceremonies and community building. Elder Philip Campiou and other Knowledge Keepers guided us through authentic cultural teachings. We continue to welcome all teachers who are passionate about meeting and working toward the TQS#5 standards and Reconciliation.

Mathematics Council (MC)

MCATA believes in providing leadership to encourage the continuing enhancement of teaching, learning and understanding mathematics.

Global, Environmental & Outdoor Education Council (GEOEC)

We’re extremely proud of Camp GEOEC, which has reimagined professional learning through a small, immersive and experiential conference connecting over 70 Alberta educators with inspiring keynotes and hands-on workshops. We’re excited to continue this work at Camp GEOEC 2026 this fall!

Council for English as an Additional Language (CEAL)

CEAL is debuting a reimagined brand to align better with its mission and audience, and launching a series of presentations for educators across the province to use.

Council for School Leadership (CSL)

We are incredibly proud of uLead, our world-renowned annual international conference in Banff, which unites more than 1,000 visionary global school leaders to ignite conversation and shape the future of education. It serves as a catalyst for transformative leadership and empowerment.

Health and Physical Education Council (HPEC)

We’re excited about the opportunities we offer our membership, including our first-ever joint conference with the Science Council in Banff in 2026 and the new council logo we’ve started creating. We’ve also been proud to offer ongoing membership support through drive-in workshops, teachers’ convention sessions and conferences.

Fine Arts Council (FAC)

Jump aboard and hold on! The Fine Arts Council continues to evolve and build expertise across Alberta through a rebranded logo and merchandise, revamped annual fall conference and redesigned academic journal—one absolutely brimming with content and resources for educators.
