On January 1, 2023 the government of Alberta’s Code of Professional Conduct for Teachers and Teacher Leaders took effect. The newly created Alberta Teaching Profession Commission assumed the responsibility to review and investigate complaints or misconduct involving teachers and teacher leaders.
Members who have received a notice from the Alberta Teaching Profession Commission should contact the Association at 1-800-232-7208 or e-mail professionaldiscipline@ata.ab.ca. The notice of complaint would be sent via your e-mail address listed in the Teacher Workforce Information System (TWINS). The Association wants to ensure that members are afforded their rights to natural justice and procedural fairness.
The Alberta Teaching Profession Commission is still developing their process which makes it difficult to explain to our members. As the new process evolves, members will have questions about it.
