The Alberta Teachers’ Association has issued the following statement following the high school shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia:
“The members of the Alberta Teachers’ Association are deeply heartbroken by the horrific tragedy that occurred yesterday at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School in British Columbia. As educators, our schools are not just buildings; they are the heart of our communities and are sacred spaces where children should always feel safe, nurtured and protected.
While we are separated by a provincial border, the bonds of the teaching profession know no boundaries.
Our hearts go out to the community of Tumbler Ridge during this time of unimaginable tragedy. We stand beside you in your grief and offer our deepest condolences.”
