ATA plans Oct. 22 rally in support of public education

A fall rally is expected to draw participants from all over the province.

Teachers will come together with parents, students and allies at a family-friendly rally in support of public education planned for the Alberta legislature on Oct. 22.

“This rally is our chance to create a new narrative about what we want to see for public education, now and in the future,” said ATA president Jason Schilling.

After years of government decisions that have negatively impacted classrooms, including funding cuts and a disastrous curriculum, the Association’s Provincial Executive Council determined that, as the Association works to make education a top priority in the 2023 provincial election, a rally to stand for public education will be key to sending a message to the new Alberta premier, who will be chosen on Oct. 6.

Thousands of teachers standing together in solidarity to support public education will help send a clear message: Albertans value public education and want to see changes that will help improve supports for students and their teachers, Schilling said.

Further details will be announced as they become available. Stay tuned to the ATA’s social media channels and its website at teachers.ab.ca.
