The Alberta Teachers’ Association president Jason Schilling has issued the following statement with regards to the provincial government announcing a $7.5 million grant for reading, writing and math skills.
“Investments into public education are vital, and we welcome these much-needed additional funds.
Teachers already identify students who need specialized supports, making their involvement as partners in education invaluable. We know that proper direction is needed for this money to have a lasting impact, and teachers can provide that direction.
The ATA would appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with the ministry on disbursing these funds and bringing teachers’ practical insight to the table.”
The Alberta Teachers’ Association, as the professional organization of teachers, promotes and advances public education, supports teachers’ professional practice and serves as the advocate for its 51,000 members.
