Food Services Aide I 

Casual Position

As the professional organization of Alberta teachers, the Alberta Teachers’ Association (ATA) promotes and advances public education, safeguards standards of professional practice and serves as the advocate for its members.

Under the direction of the Business and Facilities Manager, the Food Services Aide I works as part of a team in a service-oriented environment. The Food Services Aide I performs general duties for catered functions and the cafeteria. Specifically, this position is responsible for the following:

  • Setting up buffets and providing food and beverage services;
  • Delivering food to scheduled catered events and cleaning up afterwards;
  • Taking food orders and performing cashier duties for cafeteria customers;
  • Assisting with food preparation as assigned;
  • Cleaning counters and tables to ensure tidy work areas;
  • Maintaining cleanliness and following safe dishwashing practices;
  • Receiving ordered supplies; and
  • Reporting, recording and assisting with the management of safety concerns in food services.

Qualifications 

  • A minimum of one (1) year experience setting up banquets and catering functions
  • Highly developed interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to read and write orders
  • Knowledge of food services and health and safety procedures
  • Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment and organize tasks for smooth operations
  • Ability to lift up to 15 kilograms and push up to 50 kilograms
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures throughout the day (freezers, coolers, dish rooms and near hot equipment)
  • Knowledge of cash handling
  • Experience setting up a bar and/or serving liquor is an asset
  • ProServe certification is an asset. Candidates without ProServe will be required to obtain ProServe after starting the position.

Salary: $22.38 per hour

Hours of Work: There are no guaranteed hours per week.Daytime and weekend shifts are available between 2:30 PM and 11:00 PM. As a casual position, hours and days of work vary depending on business operations.
