Bargaining Update

Update on the recent government complaint against the ATA

Here’s what the public needs to know:

  1. The labour complaint made by the government is without merit. The government is attempting to silence members and Association leadership and undermine the overwhelming support teachers enjoy with the public. This tactic will not work.
  2. This labour complaint does not change the ATA’s strike notice or the timeline for potential strike action. However, Finance Minister Horner has stated that the government will not return to bargaining and provide a response to the proposal provided by the ATA until the LRB complaint is resolved. This delays the process and frustrates efforts to reach a negotiated settlement.

The premier has been commenting on teacher salaries in Alberta. Janet French’s recent article, How does Alberta teacher pay compare with other provinces? | CBC News, addresses teacher salary questions that teachers may have.

The strike notice by Alberta teachers remains in effect, and the October 6 deadline for potential labour action still stands.
