Speaker bio

Cassandra Washington is an experienced educator from Chicago. She served as a classroom teacher, assistant principal and principal in the Chicago Public Schools system. Since retiring, she has continued her journey in the education field and helps to train the next generation of educators. Currently, she serves as an instructional coach at a not-for-profit educational agency.
Cassandra is passionate about writing, public speaking and facilitating professional development. Some topics include social-emotional learning, leadership trauma, and educator wellness. She is the author of two books: Teach and Take Time for You: Strategies and Tips to Reduce Stress and Burnout and Meet Them Where They Are: 10 Tips to Improve Student Engagement. She has a blog called Teach and Take Time for You. She has spoken at national and international conferences about the importance of teacher self-care and trauma-informed practices.

Before entering the education field, Cassandra worked in the advertising, travel and publishing industries. Her hobbies include travel, photography, hiking and blogging.

Cassandra has a BA in political science and an MA in teaching. She also has a certificate of advanced studies in educational leadership.
